With the arrival of fall comes the consumer demand for seasonal pumpkin-flavored treats. According to Nielsen data, 37 percent of U.S. consumers purchased a pumpkin-flavored product last year alone. In fact, pumpkin products accounted for $361 million in sales in the last year, having grown 79 percent since 2011.
Pumpkin pie filling dominates the flavor segment but coffee also contributes to the high sales. Last year pumpkin-flavored coffee accounted for $32 million of sales. Pumpkin-flavored goods show no signs of slowing down, according to Nielsen. They also, however, have not helped sales of fresh pumpkins, which have been declining.
