Buffalo Rock Co., the Birmingham, Ala.-based Pepsi and Keurig Dr Pepper bottler, sold its full-line vending operations to Canteen North America in April. All or parts of 10 of Buffalo Rock’s 14 franchise sales center locations will be added to Five Star Breaktime Solutions’ base of business. The remaining business will be split between associated local Canteen partners.
Buffalo Rock will maintain its local operations as a Pepsi and Keurig Dr Pepper bottler with service from all existing franchise sales center locations. VendingMarketWatch.com reached out to Buffalo Rock for the bottler’s plans going forward.
“Buffalo Rock’s decision to divest its full-line vending operations was a proactive, strategic move driven by a desire to focus more intentionally on the company’s long-term growth priorities,” explained Cat Keller, the company’s corporate communications manager. “After a multi-year evaluation of our infrastructure and future opportunities, it became clear that partnering with industry leaders like Canteen and Five Star would allow Buffalo Rock to sharpen our focus on our core beverage business.”
According to Keller, the sale allows the team at Buffalo Rock to focus on core business areas with the greatest potential for growth. The move helps the company streamline operations and develop strategic partnerships while accomplishing key objectives. “While operational complexity and evolving market dynamics were considered, the heart of the decision was about aligning our resources with future priorities,” Keller noted. “Our strategy remains focused on three key priorities: enhancing our infrastructure for improved execution, expanding our portfolio through strategic acquisitions and growing truck share, and investing in talent development to make Buffalo Rock even more remarkable. This shift enables us to innovate faster and strengthen our position in the beverage industry.”
Buffalo Rock will play a supportive role during the transition with Five Star and Canteen. One of the key benefits of working with Five Star and Canteen, the company felt, was their support for “a smooth and seamless integration for affected employees and key accounts,” Keller noted.
“Buffalo Rock made it a top priority to ensure a respectful, stable transition for the employee-partners affected by this change. Buffalo Rock leadership worked closely with Canteen and Five Star to protect the interests of employees and provide them with a strong path forward,” Keller added.
C.J. Recher, vice president of marketing at Five Star Breaktime Solutions, noted that all Buffalo Rock employees in the full-line vending operations Five Star acquired were welcomed to Five Star and will be helping the company operate moving forward.
When asked what message the company would like to send to longtime vending customers and partners as Buffalo Rock enters this new chapter, Keller said, “To our longtime vending customers and partners, we want to express our deep gratitude for your support over the years. Through our new strategic partnerships with Canteen and Five Star, we are confident you will continue to receive the same exceptional service and dedication you’ve come to expect from Buffalo Rock.”
