NAMA Attends California BEP Vendors Training Meeting

Dec. 3, 2014

(CHICAGO) December 3, 2014 – Sandra Larson, NAMA Senior Director of Government Affairs, presented at the recent annual vendor training meeting hosted by the California Dept. of Rehabilitation’s Business Enterprise Program (BEP) in November in Los Angeles.

Larson’s presentation centered on providing insight to the group on NAMA and California Automatic Vendors Council’s (CAVC) advocacy efforts and to encourage the participation of BEP members on advocacy efforts at both the state and federal level.

In her address, Larson discussed NAMA’s increased advocacy role at all levels, highlighting specific legislation such as the change in metallic content of coins and calorie disclosure. She also spoke about ongoing efforts to educate legislators on issues that impact the industry, including elected officials visiting member companies and participating in NAMA and state council events.

“There has been a lot of legislative activity affecting the vending and refreshment services industry in California this year; including the proposed warning label on sugar sweetened beverages and vending on state property,” Larson said.

“The collaboration of BEP and CAVC is critical to spreading awareness and making progress on legislative issues affecting our industry,” she continued. “NAMA appreciates their efforts and looks forward to a continued partnership with both organizations.”

Larson also provided updates on NAMA’s revamped FitPick nutrition initiative, work on micro markets, education programs by NAMA and CAVC, and the upcoming OneShow in Las Vegas in April.
