The Kentucky Automatic Merchandising Council (KAMC) co-hosted a legislative luncheon with the Kentucky Retail Federation last week. The event, featuring more than 100 legislators and staff members, took place at the state capitol in Frankfort, Ky.
KAMC board members discussed H.B. 312, a bill introduced by Rep. Steve Riggs, providing relief for vending operators by exempting items sold in vending machines from the state’s 6 percent retail sales tax. This change would place vending on par with other retail sales channels, including convenience stores.
“Participating in the luncheon directly supports KAMC’s ongoing mission to build relationships with state legislators,” said Sheree Edwards, NAMA’s legislative director, in a prepared statement.
“The board worked with their elected officials to encourage support for H.B. 312. This bill would provide a boost to our members’ businesses and would balance the scales so they’re not paying more than other retail channels pay to sell the same products,” she continued.
“We heard consistent positive feedback from legislators who understand our position on H.B. 312, especially from a small business standpoint,” said KAMC President Mike Alexander. “We will keep the momentum going with grassroots efforts to increase the level of support from legislators.”
