TIME Magazine Names White Castle Original Slider Most Influential Burger Ever
Slidered, sealed and delivered, the White Castle Original Slider® was named Time magazine’s most influential burger ever in a recent poll of hamburger historians. White Castle, the family-owned business with more than 90 years in operation, surpassed 16 other influential burgers on the list to take the number one spot.
"We have millions of Cravers from around the globe that have professed their undying love for the iconic Slider," said Jamie Richardson, White Castle vice president, in a prepared statement. "We're excited, and humbled, that the Original Slider® has topped the list with the biggest impact in the history of the burger industry. Our famous legion of Cravers can now thump their chests, hold their heads high and say they've been proven right by the world's hamburger experts."
For the article, which notes that the success of the Slider “paved the way for the great American burger obsession,” Time interviewed burger historians and experts to determine which burgers had the biggest effect on the industry.
“We’re incredibly honored and pleased to see that the experts agree, White Castle’s Original Slider® is the ultimate icon in the burger industry,” said Richardson.
The Original Slider® dates back to 1921 when it was first served at founder Billy Ingram’s flagship restaurant in Wichita, Kan. Fast-forward to today, White Castle’s success continues as it serves more than 1.4 million Sliders per day to the loyal Craver Nation.
