Vermont House Committee Eyes Soda Tax For Health Care Reforms

In an effort to raise $90 million in state revenues to pay for health care reform, Vermont’s House Committee on Health Care is eyeing a tax on sugar-sweetened beverages, reports VPR.

The 2-cent-per-ounce tax on soda and other sugar-sweetened beverages would raise an estimated $35 million annually for the state. That amount, however, wouldn’t cover all of the funds needed for health care expenditures, leaving the House to find additional sources of funding.
