With more than 100 locations planned, and markets already in place at campuses such as Moorehouse College, University of Illinois Chicago, Northern Arizona University, Texas Christian University, and Hamlin University, Sodexo looks to tap the Gen Z student market.
Sodexo heads into 2024 with approximately 30 “Food Hive” markets in place on campuses. The micro markets have a community focus, and Sodexo works to support local partners and minority- and women-owned businesses in each market.
“We know that Gen Z prefers shopping experiences that support their community while getting what they want as fast as possible with frictionless checkout,” said Drew Nannis, the campus head of marketing for Sodexo. “Food Hive delivers just that, fueling stronger campus communities and providing the convenience today’s students need.”
Sodexo’s in-house research team point to student insights gleaned from its work. Among them, Gen Z students prioritize convenience options that provide meaningful variety (57%) and healthy options (47%). Beyond that, today’s students continue to place a high value on frictionless payment and demand shopping experiences that support inclusive communities; shopping small is one way to cultivate inclusivity.
