As of July 1, 2015, all food and beverages sold in vending machines are subject to the state’s 9 percent Meals and Rooms Tax, Valley News reports. Additionally, a six percent sales tax on sugary drinks went into effect the same day.
In April, Vermont’s Senate Finance Committee looked to overhaul the state’s tax system to close a large budget gap, and that included making changes to how vending machine sales are taxed.
