More Than 80 In Attendance At KAMC Annual Meeting

June 27, 2013

The Kentucky Automatic Merchandising Council (KAMC) held its annual meeting this week at Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park in Burkesville, Ky. Along with the general session, the event included legislative education/updates, as well as a host of resort activities including a luau-style dinner for the members and their families.

The event, with more than 80 attendees, also focused on changes within the industry including innovations in serving customers, the explosive growth of micro markets and educational opportunities for growth and development. KAMC also presented $5,000 to receipients of the "Good Life Scholarship" named in memory of former KAMC Board Member Mark Barsotti.

“Overall, it has been a great year for KAMC,” said KAMC President Mike Alexander in a prepared statement. “Between our successful Legislative Day at the Capitol and the large turnout of members here at this year’s meeting, I feel very optimistic about the direction KAMC is heading,” he continued.

Alexander went on to recognize KAMC’s success in getting House Bill 62 introduced into the state legislature this past year. Sponsored and introduced by state Representative Steve Riggs, H.B. 62 was designed to exempt vending from the state’s 6 percent sales tax.

“Getting this bill introduced was a huge milestone for the vending industry; and although it was not passed, it provides momentum and recognition for our group,” Alexander said.

Speakers included Kentucky Retail Federation President Todd Griffin, Ohio Automatic Merchandising Association President Matt Ryan and NAMA Regional Legislative Director Sheree Edwards. Todd Griffin delivered a presentation on ‘Legislation 101’ highlighting dos and don’ts of building relationships with elected officials, as well as key messaging.

Matt Ryan provided a comprehensive presentation on micro market updates in Kentucky’s neighboring state of Ohio, sparking dynamic discussion. Lastly, Sheree Edwards presented NAMA’s year-in-review, as well as a comprehensive legislative overview, with a focus on health/nutrition initiatives and taxes.
