Sunny Delight Beverages Meets Alliance For A Healthier Generation School Beverage Guidelines With Three Product Offerings
Sunny Delight Beverages Co. (SDBC) has agreed to the Alliance for a Healthier Generation School Beverage Guidelines aimed at reducing childhood obesity and empowering children to make healthier lifestyle choices. To support this effort, SDBC is launching several new products and packages that are qualified under the guidelines for all three levels of schools — elementary, middle school and high school. The breadth and variety of these offerings are unique and will allow SDBC to better meet the needs of schools. This is part of SDBC’s continuing effort to offer beverages with fewer calories and in a variety of smaller portion sizes designated by the Alliance’s guidelines.
Specifically, SDBC’s Veryfine 100 percent juice meets the guidelines across all three levels of schools by offering 120 calories or less per 8 ounce serving in multiple flavors in its 8, 10, and 11.5 ounce serving sizes. Veryfine met these guidelines by fortifying each size with three vitamins or minerals including 100 percent vitamin C, plus 10 percent of the recommended daily intake (RDI) of zinc and manganese. Veryfine juices come in classic flavors such as Apple, Orange and Grape, as well as kid-preferred flavors Twisted Cherry, 100 percent juice Fruit Punch, Apple Strawberry and Krazy Kiwi.
Two additional SDBC beverages also meet the guidelines. SunnyD, which has 40 percent less sugar than most regular soda brands is available with only 60 calories per 8 ounce serving in 6.75, 10 and 11.3 ounce sizes with 100 percent RDI of vitamin C plus 10 percent RDI of Vitamin B1. Zero calorie Fruit 2O flavored waters are available in two flavors (Natural Grape and Natural Strawberry) in a 10-ounce size.
Founded in 2005 by the American Heart Association and William J. Clinton Foundation, the Alliance worked with the American Beverage Association to create the School Beverage Guidelines and improve students’ health by limiting the calories they consume at school.
“We are pleased to be participating in the Alliance for a Healthier Generation School Beverage Guidelines as we are committed to offering schools healthy beverages with fewer calories and in smaller portion sizes. We believe this initiative is proven and we are glad to be able to work with schools to improve health & wellness,” said Ed Klene, Veryfine brand manager in a prepared statement. “Our company has always been committed to offering more wholesome beverages without compromising the tastes our consumers love.”
SDBC is continually adapting, innovating and growing to meet the changing tastes, needs and lifestyles of consumers. These product changes are in line with the company’s focus on growing the business with improved distribution, increased channels and new and improved products.
