Lavazza Announces Launch Of 100% Biodegradable, Compostable Coffee Capsules
March 4, 2015
Lavazza announced its first 100 percent compostable and biodegradable coffee capsule for espresso machines. The capsules will be made of Mater-Bi, a bioplastic produced by Novamont.
Bioplastics are materials whose properties and characteristics of use are very similar to those of traditional plastics, but at the same time, they are biodegradable and compostable according to the European standard UNI EN 13432.
Packaging Europe reports that the new capsules, along with the coffee grounds, can be recycled to become compost.
The capsules will be available in the market at the end of 2015 and will be available in two blends.
