Coffee roasters targeting the office coffee market have another option to offer convenience and sustainable products to their customers.
Designed to meet the growing demand for renewable solutions in the North American market, the Keygea single-serve compostable coffee pod utilizes a novel material and proprietary water flow system to ensure superior extraction, providing office employees with a high quality coffee experience.
Keygea is made from Ingeo PLA, a biopolymer made from renewable resources. The material and the pod made from it are certified as industrially compostable by BPI and DIN CERTCO. Once industrially composted, the coffee grounds return to the earth as nutrients.
Developed by Flo Group, a supplier to the European vending and food packaging sector, and NatureWorks, a producer of PLA-based biopolymers, Keygea is engineered with high barrier properties to protect against oxidation to preserve the coffee’s aroma and freshness. The 2.6-g pods are compatible with high-speed filling and sealing lines.
What they are saying
“We’re proud and grateful for the relationship we’ve built with FLO over the years,” says Roger Tambay, chief growth officer at NatureWorks. “Together, we have exchanged ideas and expertise to navigate the meticulous detail required for all components of an effective coffee pod.”
“This pod marks a breakthrough for the coffee market, a new chapter in our journey of innovation,” says Erika Simonazzi, marketing director of Flo Group. “Thanks to our key partnership with NatureWorks, with Keygea we are entering the North American market with a revolutionary solution that combines sustainability and high performance. But our journey doesn’t stop here: the research behind this pod opens up new opportunities in single-serve packaging and reinforces our commitment to over 50 years of excellence in food packaging.”
