San Francisco Unified School District Bans All Sweetened Drinks, Even Chocolate Milk

May 6, 2015

Recently, the San Francisco Unified School District board of education banned beverages and snacks that do not meet their newly updated school wellness policy, even if it is for faculty only, in concession stands or part of a fundraiser, reports Beyond Chron.

Within a year all sweetened beverages, such as soda, energy drinks, sweetened iced teas, sport drinks, etc. will not be sold and the district even plans to phase out chocolate milk.

Vending machines can not advertise banned beverages and under the Commercial Free Schools Act, the district is forbidden from entering into a district-wide exclusive contract with a soda or snack food company.
