Glenn Butler, vice president and chief technology officer of Crane Merchandising Systems, claims planogramming machines is a better way of ensuring the right products are placed in the machine than leaving product selection up to the route driver. Butler defends planogramming in response to a podcast that aired on 12/21/09 in which a vending operator claimed the potential for driver mistakes in following planograms will sabotage the benefits of planogramming. Butler claims some planogramming modules automatically monitor sales at each machine and can double up products that are selling out to lengthen service intervals.
