The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Projects Slower Job Growth This Decade

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), U.S. employment is projected to grow from 163 million jobs to 169 million jobs between 2019 and 2029. This .4% annual growth rate is slower than what was experienced during the decade including the country's recovery from the Great Recession (2009-2019), when jobs grew at an annual growth rate of 1.3%.
The BLS notes that these projections don't include the impact and response efforts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Rather, the projections are developed using models based upon historical data.
