Nearly Half of Furloughed U.S. Workers Believe Their Temporary Job Cut Will be Permanent

CNBC reports that nearly half of U.S. workers who are currently furloughed believe their job cut will be permanent, citing a poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. This number has increased throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, as only 2 out of 10 households reported that they believed their temporary job cut would be permanent back in April 2020. Last week, roughly 1.4 million Americans filed for unemployment.
