Scientists at the University of California are teaming up with Mars company to explore gene-editing technology in an attempt to try and save cacao plants, what chocolate is made from. These plants are currently in a position to disappear as soon as 2025 due to warmer temperatures and dryer weather conditions as a result of climate change. The new technology that's being used, CRISPR, allows for adjustments to the plant's DNA that will help it to survive the climate challenges. The plan is to develop cacao plants that don't wilt or rot at their current elevations, which will eliminate the need to relocate farms or find another approach.
