BPA Warning Label Regulation Takes Effect In California

May 13, 2016

California vendors are now required to post BPA warning labels on any machines that vend products that may contain BPA. The California Automatic Vendors Council (CAVC) wrote on its website that in 2015, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment listed BPA as a female reproductive toxicant. BPA is commonly used in certain linings of metal cans and lids of glass bottles containing food and beverages. As such, as of May 11, 2016, a BPA warning must be posted at every “point-of-sale”, MRLLP.com reports.

The regulation requires that the BPA warning labels be 5″x 5″ and read:

“WARNING: Many food and beverage cans have linings containing bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical known to the State of California to cause harm to the female reproductive system. Jar lids and bottle caps may also contain BPA. You can be exposed to BPA when you consume foods or beverages packaged in these containers. For more information go to: www.P65Warnings.ca.gov/BPA.”

The CAVC has given a resource to operators looking to purchase these labels if they have not yet done so:
