Gallup: U.S. Obesity Rate Climbs To Record High In 2015

In 2015, the obesity rate among U.S. adults reached a new high of 28 percent, up from 25.5 percent in 2008, a new survey from Gallup reports. In addition, 35.8 percent of adults are classified as overweight. The survey found that across racial and ethnic groups, whites show the sharpest increase in obesity and diabetes rates.

Editor’s note: This will be an area that our industry will continue to watch as food trends move towards consumption of ‘healthy’ and ‘better-for-you’ items. Whether or not that will have an impact on overall consumer health remains to be seen.
