Study: Some Sugary Drinks Can Improve Endurance

Dec. 9, 2015

Do you operate vending machines at a gym? Then providing beverages with sugar may not be such a bad idea, due to results from a recently published study in the American Journal of Physiology – Endocrinology & Metabolism. The study found that sugar may actually help extend a long workout. Scientists revealed that adding 30g to 90g of sugar per hour (8g sugar per 100ml), can help exercise enthusiasts have 30 percent more endurance compared to plain water.

While many sports drinks use sucrose or a combination of glucose and fructose, some use glucose alone, which may produce gut discomfort, reports Beverage Daily. Sucrose-based alternatives or sugar in water can make exercise easier.
