North Dakota's Capital Adopts Healthy Vending

June 22, 2015

The city of Bismarck, ND, is home to a new snacking option: healthy vending. A new H4U healthy vending machine was recently installed at the City County building in downtown Bismarck, the first of its kind in North Dakota according to an announcement on the city’s Website. The machine—which accepts cash and debit cards—is stocked with items chosen by city employees; many items meet the USDA’s Smart Snack guidelines. “This reflects the shift towards healthier lifestyles and the choice to eat healthy,” said Katie Johnke, Nutrition Services Coordinator with Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health in a statement. “When healthy options are more convenient and available, they may be selected more often.”

Acquiring the healthy vending machine was a combined initiative of the Bismarck Employees Active and Thriving (BEAT) and Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health (BBPH).
