Ethiopia is in a position to become a larger producer for the global coffee market due to its coffee friendly ecosystem, explained director of Jimma Agricultural Research Center, Ashenafi Ayano. Ayano said that other coffee producing countries are facing various environmental challenges. Brazil, the largest coffee producer in the world (53 percent of all output), and coffee producing countries in Latin America have faced coffee diseases and infestation by insects, which has caused their coffee production to decline. Due to its suitable ecology to produce quality coffee, Ethiopia may indeed dominate the global coffee market.
