S&D Coffee & Tea Donates $10,000 To Arbor Day Foundation, Releases Sustainability And CSR Report
CONCORD, N.C. – S&D Coffee & Tea, the nation’s largest custom coffee roaster and supplier of iced tea to the foodservice industry, made a $10,000 donation to the Arbor Day Foundation in support of its Rain Forest Rescue program.
“Rain forests are one of the important resources on the planet — providing numerous ecological benefits and a sustainable source of income for many local families,” said Dan Lambe, president of the Arbor Day Foundation. “S&D is a leading advocate for sustainable farming and is extending that commitment with their contribution, which will save 2.5 million square feet of rain forest.”
The Rain Forest Rescue program is making important strides by supporting local partners and communities in their efforts to protect, sustain and restore tropical rain forests through initiatives that include introducing sustainable practices and supporting local shade-grown coffee farmers.
“There is a natural connection between the work we’re doing at origin to preserve resources and develop sustainable production and the work of the Arbor Day Foundation’s Rain Forest Rescue program,” said John Buckner, vice president of marketing for S&D Coffee & Tea. “We are proud to recognize Arbor Day 2016 with this donation on behalf of our S&D customers, who look to S&D to be good stewards of not only their resources, but the planet’s resources as well.”
Coinciding with this donation, S&D has also released its 2015 Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report. The report chronicles the company’s work in its continuing areas of focus: resilient value chains, sustainable sourcing, personal and professional development, efficiency, and impact partnerships and industry leadership.
“Sustainability is a key driver of our risk and supply chain management strategy,” said Kyle Newkirk, vice president of global sourcing and commodity risk management with S&D. “By implementing measurable objectives and documenting our progress along the way, we are able to demonstrate our dedication to initiatives that have a lasting impact throughout the supply chain — from seed to cup.”
