Caffeine from a cup of coffee may help improve athletic endurance according to a University of Georgia study published in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism.
Simon Higgins, author of the study, found that between 3 and 7 milligrams per kilogram of body weight of coffee caffeine increased endurance performance by an average of 24 percent.
Higgins reviewed nine trials where participants either cycled or ran after consuming coffee. Results found that in most cases endurance was improved after the consumption.
Higgins told the source that more research is needed before giving recommendations to athletes.
