Bogota, December 7 2015 (FNC Press) –Colombia, the world's leading producer of mild washed Arabica coffee, produced 13.8 million 60 kilo bags during the past twelve months (December 2014-November 2015). This meant a 13% increase compared to the 12.2 million bags produced between December 2013 and November 2014.
Between January and November 2015, Colombian coffee production increased 15% by reaching a total of 12.7 million bags. Similarly, in November 2015, coffee production increased 19% by reaching a total of 1.3 million 60 kilo bags.
As noted in the National Congress of Coffee Growers, although Colombia has reclaimed its position as a global leader in the production of mild Arabica coffee, substantial challenges remain. The combination of current international prices and higher production costs (as a result of the rise in fertilizer prices and wages) is significantly undermining the profitability of Colombian coffee growers.
