Mondelez International and Lavazza reportedly announced that Lavazza has been given exclusive rights to consider purchasing the European Carte Noire coffee brand, according to Reuters.
Early talks had shown that Lavazza made a binding offer to acquire Mondelez International’s Grand Mere brand and D.E. Master Blenders’ (DEMB) L’Or brand, however, Reuters is reporting that is no longer the case with this new proposal.
Mondelez International and D.E Master Blenders 1753 announced last year that they would combine coffee businesses to form Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE) that will be based in the Netherlands.
Reuters reports that Mondelez International’s new sale proposal is meant to “soothe European competition concerns” about the merger.
Keurig entered into an agreement to repurchase approximately 5.2 million shares of Keurig common stock beneficially owned by Luigi Lavazza S.p.A. last week.
