UpSnack Brands, a newly formed entity, has acquired the assets of Pipcorn Heirloom Snacks and Spudsy. The acquisition brings together two brands focused on providing better-for-you snacks.
Joe DePetrillo, CEO of Pipcorn, will serve as CEO of UpSnack Brands. "We are thrilled that UpSnack Brands is uniting Pipcorn and Spudsy under the same umbrella, combining these two high growth brands to expand our impact in delivering great-tasting snacks with a shared commitment to quality and sustainability," he said in a statement.
Pipcorn got its start with Mini Popcorn, which made waves on Shark Tank, and the company’s product line evolved to include Cheese Balls, Crunchies, Corn Dippers, Twists and Pipcorn Fries. For its Twists, and “upcycled product,” the company earned the Where Food Comes From Upcycled Certification.
Spudsy built its product around “upcycling,” as the company “saves the spud” by taking a portion of the sweet potatoes that would have otherwise ended up in landfills due to things like shape, size, and color as their main ingredients. Spudsy’s products include Sweet Potato Fries, Sweet Potato Poppers and Sweet Potato Scoops, all of which are made with upcycled ingredients, as well as Sweet Potato Puffs.
Ashley Rogers, founder and former CEO of Spudsy, will transition to a new role as CEO of Sprinkles CPG, part of the KarpReilly family of brands. KarpReilly served as the private-equity partner for Spudsy prior to its acquisition by UpSnack.
