Report: US Consumers Continue To Use Cash

According to a recent PYMNTS.com Global Cash Index™ United States Analysis, despite more cashless payment options released into the market, the use of cash has remained relatively steady since 2003. The Index revealed that in 2015, Americans spent $2,359 billion in cash compared to $5,527 billion with cards. U.S. cash usage also remains higher than in Western European counties. Cash represented 13.1 percent of the gross domestic products in 2015, in the US, significantly higher than France, Finland, Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland.
