California's Davis City Council Opts To Leave Soda Tax Off Of June Ballot

Feb. 3, 2016

The City Council of Davis, CA, has decided not to place a one-cent-per-ounce soda tax on the June 2016 ballot, according to The Sacramento Bee. The city council voted 3-2 to reject the measure that was proposed in late 2015.

California Automatic Vending Council President Robert Donohue testified before the city council in December, arguing that the tax would place a large burden on businesses, namely, vending companies. Donohue also discussed how the tax would be difficult to implement and track due to the hundreds of products it would affect.
