A bill sponsored by Rep. Mike Pompeo (R.-Kansas) would block state and local laws from requiring food labels to disclose genetically modified ingredients, McClatchyDC.com reports. Pompeo’s “Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act” would instead create a voluntary nationwide labeling system overseen by the federal government.
Vermont, Connecticut and Maine have passed GMO labeling laws for food and more than a dozen other states are considering similar regulations, the source reports.
