The Iowa Automatic Merchandising Association (IAMA) recently hosted a legislative day at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines, Iowa. The event was held in conjunction with the IAMA annual meeting.
The legislative day was coordinated by Steve Roberts, IAMA legislative consultant. A dozen IAMA members hosted a breakfast for legislators where they were able to speak with lawmakers about the vending and refreshment services industry. There were six state senators and 13 representatives in attendance. NAMA’s Senior Director and Counsel Sandy Larson also attended.
“The legislative day was an excellent opportunity for IAMA members to educate and interact with their legislators,” Larson said in a prepared statement. “This is the first year that IAMA has had a legislative event and it was an excellent opportunity for our members to establish relationships with their legislators that we can build on in the future.”
IAMA President Chuck Tuttle was pleased with the event. “Our legislative day was a huge success for IAMA and the vending, coffee and refreshment services industry in Iowa,” Tuttle said. “The event was very well received by the legislators. It was a great opportunity to meet with our representatives to educate them about our industry.”
IAMA held its annual meeting at Raccoon River Brewing Company in Des Moines. Special guests in attendance included Rod Roberts, director of the Iowa Department of Inspections, Mark Speltz, the training specialist for the Iowa Department of Inspections Appeals Food and Consumer Safety Bureau and NAMA board of directors member Jim Brinton, of Avanti Market. The focus of the meeting was to educate the director and training specialist about micro markets and to lay the foundation for future discussions related to regulation of micro markets at the state level.
