    Committee Proposes Universal Nutrition Rating System For Front Of Pack Food Labels

    The Committee on Examination of Front-of-Package Nutrition Rating Systems and Symbols (Phase II) describes its proposed nutrition rating system as “an Energy Star equivalent for food and beverages;” the label lists calories per serving, and assigns zero to three points for acceptable levels of trans and saturated fats, sodium and added sugars.

    Editor's Insight: Front of pack labeling could be helpful to the vending industry if the Food & Drug Administration decides that it meet the calorie disclosure requirements. Whether or not this happens is far from certain.
