Kansas College Newspaper Pushes For More Healthy Items In School Vending Machines

Changing the items offered in campus vending machines is one way to help college students eat healthier, reports The Allen Flame, the school newspaper for Allen Community College in Iola, KS.

The source advocates for offering a range of healthier options such as fiber bars, dried fruit and pretzels in addition to traditional options, so that consumers can make the choice for what they eat. “We have a responsibility to make nutrition a top priority, and the least we can do it to assist our students and make these kinds of food accessible,” The Allen Frame writes.

More university students are taking healthy vending into their own hands. The University of Texas-Arlington Student Congress Academic Affairs Committee passed a resolution last month that would introduce healthy vending machines to campus.
