In New York City, the Metropolitan Transport Authority (MTA) recently piloted a vending program to serve subway riders seeking convenience items including snacks and over-the-counter medicine. Spectrum News NY 1 reports that the MTA is testing these vending machines in Union Square and Chambers Street (1, 2, 3 lines) due to the decreasing availability of subway newsstands. The MTA receives a percentage of sales and is seeking more vending machines from other companies over the next two years.
