July 8, 2021

ICream, a vending machine that produces freshly made ice cream, is seeking to automate the soft-serve retail experience in southern California shopping malls. The first machine reportedly debuted at Westfield Century City and will roll out in other malls through the summer.

Soff-serve products dispensed and delivered with a variety of popular toppings with the aid of a robotic conveyor arm in an encapsulated machine. ICream said there is no outside contact, which ensures a quick, convenient and sanitary operation.

The iCream vending machine, which accepts debit cards, credit cards and payment apps, offers more than 25 flavor combinations. Prices start at $3 for a cup of plain vanilla. Toppings are 25¢ each and can reach $4.50 for add-ons such as Oreo cookies, M&Ms, mixed nuts, hard chocolate shell, strawberry and caramel sauce.

Patrons make selections on a large touchscreen display, then watch through the glass as the robotic arm creates their soft-serve treats before it gets delivered through a small opening at the front of the machine. Preparation and vend time is less than a minute.

ICream said it is planning use its automated platform to vend acai products. The iAcai will roll out later this year.
