PepsiCo and Cargill have announced a strategic collaboration to advance regenerative agriculture practices across 240,000 acres of Iowa farmland by 2030. This initiative focuses on the shared corn supply chain in Iowa, where Cargill sources from local farmers to produce ingredients used in some of PepsiCo’s most well-known products. The collaboration aims to enhance supply chain resilience, support positive outcomes for farming communities by helping them adopt regenerative practices, and promote sustainable agriculture at scale.

Practical Farmers of Iowa (PFI), a nonprofit organization with roots in the Midwest farming community, will implement the collaboration locally. PFI will provide farmers with technical guidance and financial incentives to adopt regenerative agriculture practices such as cover cropping, reduced tillage and nutrient management.

The initiative aligns with both companies’ sustainability goals. PepsiCo aims to drive the adoption of regenerative, restorative or protective practices across 10 million acres globally by 2030, while Cargill has set a goal to advance regenerative agriculture on 10 million acres of North American farmland by the same year.

Sustainable sourcing and support of regenerative agriculture practices can be a part of convenience services operators’ sustainability stories, strengthening the sustainability of their clients’ supply chains.
