Chicago Alderman and chairman of Chicago’s Committee on Health and Environmental Protection George Cardenas has proposed a penny-per-ounce tax on sugar-sweetened beverages, Chicago Sun-Times reports. Cardenas introduced the ordinance last week during a city council meeting and estimated that the tax could generate $134 million per year for the city.
