A bill that would put a penny-per-ounce levy on soda and a 9.5 percent tax on oil pumped from the ground was passed through California legislation by the Senate Health Committee, according to the LA Times. The state plans to use the $1.7 billion raised from the soda tax on the Children’s Health Promotion Fund to combat childhood obesity. Full article.
