Editor’s Insight: The decline in soda consumption has been constant since 2000. Despite this, obesity rates continue to increase. While some of the soda alternatives include just as much sugar as soda, it’s time for educators and nutritionists to recognize that sugar consumption and caloric intake are not the only factors contributing to obesity.
Too many public officials are too quick to propose nutrition restrictions as a way to reduce obesity. The food and beverage industry has supported numerous efforts to educate consumers about the importance of exercise and a balanced diet.
