Byte Acquires Pantry, Accelerates The Availability Of Fresh, Healthy Food In The Workplace

May 18, 2016

San Francisco, May 10, 2016 – Byte Foods Inc. today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Pantry Retail, Inc., the leading hardware and software provider for intelligent swipe, grab and go kiosks. The agreement reflects Byte’s continued focus on offering the most affordable turn-key solution for businesses to offer fresh food at the workplace.

Byte is reinventing the way employees eat at the office by providing simple, deliciously healthy and always-available fresh meals, snacks and drinks on site. Using Pantry kiosks, employees simply swipe a credit card to open the refrigerator door, grab whatever they’d like and are only charged for what is removed from the kiosk. Byte uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to eliminate the need for employers to fully subsidize food costs and fits seamlessly within any type of food budget.

“Food at the office is the most popular employee perk and this acquisition uniquely aligns Byte to expand our offerings and scale quickly,” said Megan Mokri, Chief Executive Officer of Byte. “After months of fast growth and a close relationship with the world-class Pantry team, we’re excited about the opportunities ahead. Byte is well-positioned to be the most efficient, affordable fresh food solution for offices, and Pantry’s technology is a foundational element of our rollout.”

Byte understands fresh, affordable food means happier, healthier and more productive employees. Byte is a high-impact benefit that delivers:

  • A turn-key fresh food solution that takes minutes to implement and works for companies of all shapes and sizes.
  • An immediate boost to employee happiness, wellness and overall productivity. 90% of employees with Byte say that Byte allows them to make healthier eating choices at work.
  • A high impact employee perk that, on average, is used by over 70% of employees on a regular basis.
  • Delicious and rotating selection of food from brands employees love: Mixt Greens, Blue Bottle, Urban Remedy, Project Juice, Rustic Bakery, Justin’s, The Town Kitchen, and more.
  • No waste! All food that goes uneaten is donated and redistributed to non-profits and those in need through Marin through Byte’s partnership with ExtraFood.org.

“With this acquisition, Byte is poised to change the way people eat, snack and drink while at work,” said Russ Cohn, CEO of Pantry. “Together, Byte and Pantry are a winning combination for companies and offices of any size to enjoy 24/7 access to high quality snacks, drinks and meals.”
