Salad Vending Machine Becomes A Workplace Hotspot
Farmer's Fridges's fresh salad machines are in place across Milwaukee and Chicago, with salads averaging around $7, according to Fast Company. Luke Saunders founded the company after he graduated from college in 2013. The vending machine's first location was in a food court downtown Chicago next to a Dunkin' Donuts and McDonald's, where it was soon getting rave reviews on Yelp. Currently Farmer's Fridge has 120 vending machines in Milwaukee and Chicago, which it plans to double this year. In Chicago, some locations Farmer's Fridge has placed the vending machine is in office buildings, hospitals, call centers, convenience stores and student centers at universities. The vending machines are digitally connected to the company's kitchen, where it preps salads, yogurt parfaits, and a few non-salad options, every day. An algorithm helps predict how much to make, which reduces waste, and any extra food at the end of the day is donated.
